Honesty and integrity are more than values: they are the values that determine other values.

Sadly, they're also values that have lost a lot of cachet, just because the words get thrown around a lot without any meaning attached, much like 'hard work' and 'loyalty', which young people nowadays see as euphemisms for doing what we're told by uncaring authorities.

That said, integrity ain't about other people, it's about your word to yourself. There's something to that old truism about virtue being its own reward. Only you have to go to sleep *really* knowing what you today.

This reminded me of what I'm reading the Hagakure. They almost seem like notions of ancient ways, but they still hold as much weight as the ocean holds water though.
